Privacy policy

Benchdict (“we”, “us”) is a publication about software and hardware, operated by Jason. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit benchdict.com, why, who receives it, and what you can do about it. Benchdict is aimed at a general audience in the United States. It has no accounts, no comments and no purchases on our site.

By using the site you accept this policy. If you disagree with it, please don’t use the site.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider and our tools record technical data when you load a page: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. We use it to deliver the site, keep it secure and understand which articles are read.

Affiliate link clicks. When you click a link that goes through a /go/ address, we log the link name, the time, the article the click came from and basic browser information. We do not store your full IP address in the click record. We use this to count clicks and fix broken links.

Email address, if you subscribe. The newsletter is not live yet. When it launches, we will ask only for your email address and use it to send Benchdict updates. The signup form on the site currently does not store anything.

Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply and make any corrections.

We don’t knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we don’t ask you to create an account.

• To operate, secure and improve the site and its articles.
• To measure which pages and links are used, in aggregate.
• To send the newsletter, once it is live, to people who asked for it.
• To respond to messages and correction requests.
• To show advertising and to earn affiliate commissions that fund the site.
• To comply with the law and enforce our terms.

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use only what is needed to run the site and, where enabled, what our advertising and affiliate partners set. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may work less well if you do.

• Advertising. We use, or will use, Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Affiliate programmes. When you follow an affiliate link, the company we link to may set its own cookies to credit us for a referral. Those cookies are governed by that company’s policy.
• Search and site analytics. We use Google Search Console and hosting analytics to see how people find and use the site, in aggregate.

We don’t sell your email address or contact details. We share information only with:

• Service providers who run the site for us, such as our hosting provider and, later, our email service.
• Advertising partners, such as Google, which receive data through cookies and identifiers as described above.
• Affiliate partners, which receive your visit when you click through to their site.
• Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the site.
• A successor, if Benchdict is ever transferred to someone else, under the same commitments as this policy.

Under some US state laws, sharing data for cross-context behavioural advertising can count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. Your choices are in the next section.

• Ad personalisation. Turn off personalised ads with Google at adssettings.google.com, or use the industry tools at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org.
• Opt-out signals. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information where the law requires that.
• Email. Every newsletter will include an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to us.
• Cookies. Block or delete them in your browser settings.

Residents of California and some other US states (including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and Utah) have rights over their personal information, which can include:

• Knowing what personal information we collect, use and disclose.
• Getting a copy of it, and asking us to correct or delete it.
• Opting out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and of targeted advertising.
• Not being treated worse for using these rights.

To use a right, email openai@invaiz.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We may need to confirm it is you, and we will reply within the time the law allows, generally 45 days. You may use an authorised agent to make a request. We have no financial incentives tied to your data.

We keep server logs and click records only as long as we need them for security and analysis, and email correspondence until the matter is resolved. We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Benchdict is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Our articles link to third-party sites, including tools and retailers. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their privacy practices. Read their policies before you share information with them.

We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date below, and for material changes we will say so on the site. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
