Amazon announced the Echo Show 16, a 16-inch smart display, on October 28. List prices start at $499.99 for the standard finish and $569.99 for Nanomatte, an anti-glare etched screen finish.
For households near windows, Nanomatte is the headline change. Viewing area grows only 10 percent over the predecessor. The screen is full HD. Countertop use requires an extra stand. Full access to Amazon's paid Alexa Plus assistant costs $20 a month without Prime. The case for the $70 finish premium depends on independent bright-room tests of Amazon's claim of more than 90 percent less glare.

Two finishes for the larger display
Amazon's own announcement was not read directly for this story; details come from Engadget, The Verge and CNET. The Echo Show 16 combines Alexa Plus with Fire TV, Amazon's streaming TV software, and customizable household screens.
CNET attributes a reduction in glare of more than 90 percent to Amazon. Engadget says Amazon developed the anti-reflective etching technology with glassmaker Corning.
The optional finish targets reflections from windows and overhead lighting. Both versions have a full HD display.
The Verge and CNET give the following prices:
| Display finish | List price | Preorder discount |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $499.99 | $100 |
| Nanomatte | $569.99 | $100 |
After the $100 preorder discount, the models cost $399.99 and $469.99, and the Nanomatte premium is $70 either way.
A wall mount comes in the box. Countertop placement costs extra: The Verge lists a static stand at $69.99 and a swivel-and-tilt version at $124.99.

What changes from Echo Show 15
Against the Echo Show 15, Amazon's earlier large smart display, the new model offers 10 percent more viewing area. The aluminum frame is nearly 40 percent thinner than its predecessor.
Engadget reports a 20 percent increase in computing power over the predecessor. Its coverage does not specify the benchmark behind that figure.
The new model has a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera. Visual ID, Amazon's camera-based recognition feature, increases its range from eight feet to 17 feet. Night vision also joins the Echo Show lineup.
